Hollow Fiber Membranes For Hemodialysis
GRT India is developing Polyethersulfone/Polysulfone-based hollow fibres for dialysis applications and samples are being tested at its collaborator Manipal Institute of Technology. Dialysis cartridges fabricated using these fibres are undergoing in-vitro testing and toxicity testing. Preliminary performance tests have shown adequate urea and creatinine clearance rates and early toxicity tests have established the safety of the device. These results are in line with international standards and compare well with market leaders in the field. However, these are early studies and every step has to be validated and the in-vitro performance of the device and safety of the device toxicity have to be fully established. Likewise, the fibre size, porosity and such factors have to be stabilised.
